Finding Joy in the Lord

“If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight and the LORD’s holy day honorable, and if you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words, then you will find your joy in the LORD, and I will cause you to ride in triumph on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob.” For the mouth of the LORD has spoken. (Isaiah 58:13-14 NIV)

Exodus 20:8-11 says we are not to do secular work on the Sabbath day.  How do we keep the Sabbath?  Isaiah gives us some insight on how to keep the Sabbath holy.  It is by keeping our focus on our creator.  It is a time we set aside to spend with Him.  A time to spend in creation.  Enjoying and praising God for the beauty He has given us.  It is a time to study His word.  It is a time to share the Gospel with others.  The Sabbath is a delight which will bring us joy.

I rejoiced with those who said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD.” (Psalms 122:1 NIV)
